Things I’m Thinking About

I have a very simple daily rhythm with a friend of mine.

Wherever we are, be it a graveyard or bass pro shop, my friend will eventually say, “Do you know all the things I love about you?” Then I try my best to remember the things.

“I know you love my curiosity and sincerity. And you love the way I look when I’m trying to think opposites together. And you love when I find someone in an interesting outfit, or with an interesting smile, or with an interesting air, and then watch them like they’re in a movie. And you love the little bit of effort that I give, but you love my motivation more. And you love how I like to try to feel every little rock under my shoe when I’m on a hike. And you love the notes I put together on a piano. And you love all the faces I paint. And you love…”

I’ll go on, and on, and on about all the lovable things. My friend stays quiet the whole time and seems to enjoy hearing me talk. 

Eventually when I’m done with my list of lovable things, my friend will say, “Yep, I love all of those. Except you forgot one thing…” Then I’ll be given another lovable thing to remember in my list tomorrow.
